VON TRAPP

Sometimes the best plans are the plans that aren't planned at all. A few weekends back I went up to Vermont. There was a balloon festival in town so we planned to wake up for sunrise launch Sunday morning. The weather had been iffy the two days prior so we weren't sure what we'd get but opted to go regardless. We woke to heavy fog hoped it would burn off by the time the balloons were set to rise. By the time we arrived, it seemed worse than we'd hoped for so we went to get a very early breakfast instead. On our way to grab a light bite, Dave decided he'd take a little detour towards Trapp Family Lodge. He had an inkling the change in elevation might make for a better vantage point if they still planned to set the balloons off. He was right. The view was so serene and sure enough, one by one, the balloons rose above the low hanging clouds. We counted valley after valley as the colors disappeared behind them and roamed the grounds taking in every viewpoint.

IT'S FUNNY THE SAYING, 'YOU ALWAYS WANT WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE' BECAUSE IT COULDN'T BE MORE TRUE. A FEW MONTHS AGO I COULDN'T WAIT TO LEAVE VERMONT AND HEAD BACK TO NEW YORK. BUT NOW I FIND MYSELF SOAKING IN EVERY OUNCE OF FRESH AIR WHEN I VISIT AND WITH EVERY TRIP BACK, IT GETS HARDER AND HARDER TO LEAVE. THIS WEEKEND SPENT WITH DAVE, JUST BARELY EXPLORING, WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
