ZOOM FLY

NIKE'S LATEST AND GREATEST? A TRIO OF SNEAKERS DESIGNED TO BE THE FASTEST YET. THE ZOOM FLY, ZOOM AIR PEGASUS 34 AND THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ZOOM VAPORFLY 4% RELEASED LAST WEEK AND HAVE ALREADY MADE MAJOR WAVES. SINCE I'VE NEVER BEEN A PEGASUS FAN AND THE VAPORFLY 4% IS SIGNIFICANTLY OUT OF MY BUDGET, I HAD MY EYES SET ON THE ZOOM FLY. 

WHEN I FIRST TRIED THEM ON, I WAS SURPRISED. THE SENSATION I GOT WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. THEY HAD A ROCK TO THEM THAT MADE WALKING FEEL ODD. I'M TALKING MY FEET WERE IN A ROCKING CHAIR. WHILE SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT, I FELT SECURE AND CONFIDENT DURABILITY WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. 

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

+ A SUPER CUSHIONED, ALMOST TRAMPOLINE LIKE QUALITY TO EACH STRIDE. I FOUND MYSELF LITERALLY BOUNCING FROM ONE STRIDE TO THE NEXT, CATAPULTING ME FORWARD DESPITE MY LUNGS COMFORT LEVEL. THIS IS DUE TO THE CARBON FIBER PLATE POSITIONED IN THE SOLE OF THE SNEAKER (FUN FACT: FIGURE SKATES ARE NOW MADE WITH CARBON FIBER SOLES AND FOOTBEDS FOR THE SAME PURPOSE OF A CUSHIONED, PROPULSIVE SENSATION)

+ A SLEEK, EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT FEEL THANKS TO THIN UPPERS

+ A SECURE RIDE, NONETHELESS, THANKS TO NIKE'S DOUBLE FLYWIRE

+ A 10MM OFFSET TO HELP AID ANY ACHILLES DISCOMFORT

+ A CHALLENGE FOR YOUR LUNGS TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR FEET. TRULY I FOUND MYSELF HOLDING BACK A SPRINT DURING THE ENTIRE DURATION OF MY RUN, MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE AND CUSHIONING OF THE SHOE. REMEMBER EARLIER WHEN I SAID IT WAS STRANGE TO WALK IN THEM? IT'S BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE FOOT PLATE IS SHAPED INTO THE SOLE OF THE SNEAKER. IT'S MEANT TO PROPEL FORWARD IN A CONTINUOUS MOTION, WHICH FOR RACING, IS IDEAL, AMIRITE?

THINGS TO NOTE*

WITH ANY NEW RUNNING SHOE, I FELT DIFFERENCES FROM THE SNEAKERS I NORMALLY TRAIN IN. HERE'S A FEW I EXPERIENCED WITH THE ZOOM FLY'S.

1. I FELT LIKE I WAS BEING PUSHED FORWARD. WHICH WAS FINE AS LONG AS I WAS MOVING. WHILE MY BODY WAS PUSHING FORWARD, AS WERE MY TOES. I FELT THEM SLIDE TO THE THE TOP OF THE TOE BOX ALMOST INSTANTLY THE SECOND I BEGAN RUNNING AND THEY SEEMED TO REMAIN THERE THE ENTIRE RUN.

2. I AM SOMEWHAT OF A HEEL STRIKER WHICH MEANS MY HEELS TEND TO HIT THE GROUND FIRST BEFORE THE REST OF MY FEET. I KEPT FEELING LIKE THERE WAS A ROCK OR GUM OR SOMETHING STUCK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VERY BACK OF THE SHOE. I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE SNEAKERS CURVE AT THE HEEL. I GOT USED TO IT TOWARDS THE END OF THE RUN, BUT DEFINITELY NOTICED IN THE BEGINNING. 

3. I NOTICED THE OFFSET, WHICH I NORMALLY DON'T SINCE MY FEET ARE RELATIVELY NORMAL IN THAT I DO NOT PRONATE OR SUPINATE. AND BY NOTICED, I MEAN I FELT IT EVERY STEP IN THE BEGINNING BUT AS I WORE THEM, IT NOTICED IT LESS AND LESS.

I HAVEN'T HAD ANY DISCOMFORT YET AND WILL ADD THEM INTO MY SNEAKER ROTATION. BUT I HAVE A FEELING AFTER A RUN IN THESE, IT MAY BE HARD TO GO BACK TO MY OTHER SNEAKERS.
