MOVE AHEAD: WEEK 6

THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS HAVE BEEN A WHIRLWIND. WE'VE HAD FAMILY AND FRIENDS VISITING AND I CAUGHT A NASTY COLD THAT PUT ME OUT OF COMMISSION FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK. BUT I AM BACK AND SLOWLY SLIPPING INTO MY NORMAL SCHEDULE.

I WAS ABLE TO PICK UP TRAINING AFTER MY NOT SO HOT 13-SHOULD-HAVE-BEEN-18 MILER. I STUCK TO PLAN ALL WEEK AND PACED MY WAY THROUGH MY LONG RUN OF 14 MILES. I HAD TO RE-ARRANGE MY SCHEDULE TO ACCOMMODATE THE MILES, BUT IT ALL WORKED OUT. WEEK 7 CAME AND WENT AND ASIDE FROM CUTTING A FEW LAPS SHORT ON THE TRACK, ALL WENT ACCORDING TO PLAN. I FELT CONFIDENT DURING MY 18 MILER AND FELT GREAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT.

THE DAY AFTER MY LONG RUN I STARTED TO FEEL A BIT RUN DOWN. HOWEVER, THIS EXHAUSTION WASN'T FROM RUNNING, MY BODY WAS FIGHTING A COLD. AND COME SUNDAY, I WAS TOTALLY DONE FOR. I POUNDED VITAMIN C, GATORADE, WATER AND COLD MEDICINE MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT. I STAYED HOME FROM WORK A COUPLE DAYS TO RE-ACCLIMATE AND GET AS MUCH REST AS I COULD. RUNNING WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION SO I JUST CONTINUED TO STRETCH AND TAKE IT EASY AT HOME. BY THURSDAY I WAS FEELING A BIT STRONGER, SO I WENT FOR A SHAKEOUT TO SEE HOW WEAK I WAS. I DIDN'T FEEL TERRIBLE, SO I DECIDED TO GIVE MY LONG RUN FOR THE WEEK A TRY. SURE ENOUGH, 14 MILES LATER, I FELT GREAT. IT WAS LIBERATING TO SWEAT AND I FELT BETTER ABOUT THE LACK OF MILES EARLIER IN THE WEEK.

THIS WEEK IS IN FULL SWING AND I'M STILL COMING AT IT CAUTIOUSLY. I AM PLANNING ON RUNNING MY LONGEST RUN OF THIS TRAINING CYCLE TOMORROW (INSTEAD OF SATURDAY). WHICH MEANS A HEARTY PASTA DINNER TONIGHT, LOTS OF WATER AND AN EARLY BEDTIME.
