WEEK 5, 4, 3

THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS OF TRAINING HAVE BEEN A BIT ALL OVER THE PLACE. AFTER I GOT OVER MY COLD, I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE A PAIN IN MY LEFT BUTT AND HIP. IT RADIATED DOWN MY LEG AND INTO MY CALF. ALTHOUGH I DID NOT GET CHECKED OUT BY A DOCTOR (I RECOMMEND ALWAYS SEEING A DOCTOR) I COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS AGGRAVATING MY SCIATICA. I TOOK A FEW DAYS OFF FROM RUNNING AND BEGAN INCREASING MY MOBILITY AND STRENGTH TRAINING. I INCORPORATED EPSOM SALT BATHS AND ICING INTO MY ROUTINE AS WELL AS A BOOST IN VITAMINS. I'VE BEEN ON A REGIMEN OF 8 OZ OF TART CHERRY JUICE A DAY AND ALL OF THESE SEEM TO BE HELPING GREATLY.

I ENJOYED A NICE RECOVERY RUN MONDAY EVENING. I PLANNED 5 MILES, BUT TOOK A WRONG TURN AND ENDED UP RUNNING 6. I FELT GREAT AND NEEDED TO HIT THE PAVEMENT STRONG AFTER THE BREAK I TOOK THE WEEK BEFORE. 

TUESDAY WAS TRACK DAY. I WAS CONSERVATIVE AND KEPT THE WORKOUT SHORT AND CONCISE: .5 MI WARMUP, 1200 METERS (600 AT TEMPO, 600 AT MILE), .5 MI COOL DOWN PLUS SOME DYNAMICS AND STRETCHING

WEDNESDAY, I RESTED, ICED, STRETCHED

THURSDAY I TACKLED A LITTLE OVER 4 TEMPO MILES WITH A BIT OF HILLS

FRIDAY, I RESTED, ICED, STRETCHED ANYTHING I COULD DO FOR MUSCLE RECOVERY AND GEAR UP FOR SATURDAYS LONG RUN

SATURDAY, 13 STRONG, PAIN FREE MILES

 

NEXT WEEK IS THE LAST FULL PUSH WEEK BEFORE THE CHICAGO MARATHON. I'VE ALTERED MY GOALS FOR THIS RACE, AS SUMMER TRAINING DIDN'T GO AS I'D PLANNED. AT THE END OF THE DAY, I WILL BE HAPPY TO FINISH NO MATTER THE TIME. OF COURSE, I'M AN ATHLETE, SO I WANT A SPECIFIC NUMBER OR BETTER. BUT I AM ALSO HUMAN, AND COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT SOMETIMES OUR BODIES DON'T PERFORM THE WAY WE WANT THEM TO. ALL I KNOW, IS THAT I WILL PUSH MYSELF AS HARD AS I CAN TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS I'VE SET FOR MYSELF. AS LONG AS I TRY, I'LL BE HAPPY.
