LOOK AHEAD: WEEK 9

GETTING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS.

THE CHANCE OF INJURY IS HIGH CONSIDERING THE MILEAGE AND ACTIVITY I'M DOING DAY TO DAY. SO I TEND TO STAY HYPER AWARE OF WHEN SOMETHING DOESN'T FEEL NORMAL. THIS PAST WEEK I EXPERIENCED AN UNSUAL PAIN IN MY LEFT HIP AS WELL AS MY LEFT LOWER LEG. I DIDN'T WANT TO PUSH IT SO I DECIDED TO TAKE AN EXTRA DAY OFF TO STRETCH, ICE AND RECOVER AS WELL AS LOWER MY MILEAGE. I KNOW THAT ADDING A REST DAY TO MY SCHEDULE WON'T HURT ME, BUT OVER DOING WILL. THIS WEEK WASN'T EXACTLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND, BUT THE WEATHER AND SOME TRAINING PAINS RE-ROUTED MY PLANS.

MY SCHEDULE LOOKED LIKE THIS:

MONDAY: 2 MILE RECOVERY RUN, POST RUN STRETCH AND BAND WORK

TUESDAY: TRACK, (16x 200 METERS WAS THE PLANNED WORKOUT, BUT THE PAIN IN MY HIP WAS GREATER THAN NORMAL SO I SHORTENED THE WORKOUT TO 10x 200 METERS ALTERNATING BETWEEN 5K AND MILE PACE)

WEDNESDAY: RECOVERY DAY, STRETCHING, ICING AND BAND WORK

THURSDAY: RECOVERY DAY TWO, STRETCHING, ICING AND BAND WORK INSTEAD OF SPEED TRAINING WITH HILLS

FRIDAY: 3 MILE RECOVERY RUN, POST RUN STRETCHING AND BAND WORK

SATURDAY: 13 MILES OF PLANNED 18 MILES

SUNDAY: RECOVERY DAY THREE, STRETCHING

HIGHLIGHTS:

MOST CHALLENGING: THE LONG RUN.

FOR THE THIRD WEEK IN A ROW MY LONG RUN HAS NOT GONE AS PLANNED. THE HUMIDITY HAS BEEN MY BIGGEST ENEMY. THIS WEEK WAS THE WORST BY FAR. I WAS IN NJ FOR THE WEEKEND AND KNEW I'D HAVE TO GET OUT EARLY TO TRY AND BEAT THE HEAT. AT 5:45 AM IT WAS 78 DEGREES WITH 100% HUMIDITY. I KNEW I'D BE IN FOR THE LONG HAUL AND WAS EXTREMELY WORRIED ABOUT HYDRATION AND HEAT STROKE. SO I DECIDED TO GO FOR AS LONG AS I FELT IT WAS DO-ABLE. I EXECUTED 13 OF THE 18 PLANNED MILES BUT FELT LIKE I'D RAN A FULL MARATHON BY THE TIME I GOT HOME. THE HUMIDITY WAS SO CHALLENGING THAT IT MESSED WITH MY MIND AND PACE GREATLY.

MOST SURPRISING: ALLOWING MYSELF A THIRD RECOVERY DAY, SKIPPING HILLS WORKOUT

I AM ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT SKIPPING KEY WORKOUTS, HOWEVER, I KNEW THAT TAKING AN EXTRA DAY TO STRETCH AND REALLY WORK OUT THE PAINS I WAS FEELING IN MY LEFT HIP WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. BY THE WEEKEND I'D WORKED OUT WHATEVER WAS AGGRAVATING IT AND FELT I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE IN LOWERING THE WEEK'S MILEAGE AND RECOVERING PROPERLY.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: SEEING PROGRESS DURING MY NEXT LONG RUN
