PICK UP THE PACE: WEEK 11

HEADING INTO WEEK 11 (11 WEEKS OUT FROM CHIMAR), I FELT ANXIOUS. I WAS HOPING TO SEE BIGGER IMPROVEMENTS IN MY OVERALL PACE, BUT IT’S TAKING A BIT LONGER THAN I EXPECTED. THIS PAST WEEK WAS LONG AND FILLED WITH WORKOUTS THAT SEEMED DO-ABLE BUT STILL INTIMIDATING IN THEIR RESPECT.

HIGHLIGHTS:

MOST CHALLENGING: THE LONG RUN.

THIS WEEK’S 14 MILES WAS THE FURTHEST DISTANCE I’VE RAN IN A WHILE. IDEALLY, I WANTED TO SEE MYSELF SIT AT OR AROUND AN 8:15- 8:30 PACE. I ENDED UP CLOSER TO 8:45-8:55 PER MILE, SOME MILES IN BETWEEN THE TWO.

MOST SURPRISING: TRACK SESSION.

I FELT STRONG AND HIT MY GOAL PACE PER INTERVAL. THIS WEEK’S TRACK SESSION COMPRISED OF:

4x 200 METERS AT 5K PACE

1x 400 METERS AT MILE PACE

4x 200 METERS AT 5K PACE

1x 400 METERS AT MILE PACE

4x 200 METERS AT 5K PACE

1x 400 METERS AT MILE PACE

60 SEC RECOVERY AFTER 200’S

2 MIN RECOVER AFTER 400’S

LOOKING FORWARD TO: NEXT WEEK’S LONG RUN.

I REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW HARD I CAN PUSH MYSELF GOING INTO THESE LONGER RUNS. FROM HERE ON OUT, IT’S GOING TO BE VERY IMPORTANT TO TEST MY ENDURANCE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY IN ORDER TO BE COMFORTABLE CONQUERING THE DISTANCE.
