BBG WEEK 1

AFTER I COMPLETED THE SPRING RACES I HAD PLANNED, I KNEW I HAD TO TAKE A SMALL HIATUS FROM RUNNING. I WAS RUNNING ON A FRACTURED TIBIA AND DIDN'T QUITE KNOW IT. I HAD EXPERIENCED SOME PAIN IN MY LEFT LEG POST VERMONT CITY MARATHON, BUT THE PAIN RADIATED FROM MY HIP ALL THE WAY TO MY SHIN, SO I WASN'T EXACTLY SURE WHAT WAS WRONG. PLUS, I HAD JUST RAN A MARATHON, SO I HAD ALL KINDS OF ACHES AND PAINS. AFTER MULTIPLE DOCTOR VISITS, SOME TIME OFF, X-RAYS, A 15K RACE AND FINALLY AN MRI, THE DOCTORS RULED IT TO BE A FRACTURE IN MY LEFT TIBIA. NATURALLY I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, BUT RELIEVED TO FINALLY FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE OF MY PAIN. AT THAT POINT, THE FRACTURE WAS CLOSE TO BEING HEALED AND THE DOCTOR ORDERED PHYSICAL THERAPY TO CLOSE OUT MY RECOVERY.

ONE THING I TRIED TO MAKE SURE OF WHILE VCM TRAINING WAS ADEQUATELY CROSS TRAINING. I HAD BEEN RUNNING CLOSE TO 130 MILES A MONTH AND RESISTANCE TRAINING TWICE A WEEK TO STRENGTHEN AND BUILD MUSCLE. ALTHOUGH IT SEEMED LIKE I WAS PROPERLY PREPARING, I STILL GOT INJURED. IN THE COMING YEAR I HAVE SEVERAL RACES PLANNED INCLUDING THE ZION HALF MARATHONNYC HALF, HOPEFULLY A FEW OVER THE SUMMER AND THE CHICAGO MARATHON. IT'S THERE, I'M HOPING TO PUT OUT A QUALIFYING TIME FOR BOSTON. IT TAKES MORE THAN JUST RUNNING, SO THIS IS WHERE BBG COMES IN. TODAY MARKS DAY ONE OF WEEK ONE WITH KAYLA ITSINES' BBG WORKOUT. WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT HER PROGRAM IS THE CONVENIENCE, INSPIRATION AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY THAT COMES WITH EACH WORKOUT. AND ALTHOUGH I FELT I CROSS TRAINED HARD THIS PAST SPRING, THIS MAY BE THE PUSH I NEED TO TRAIN EVEN HARDER. DAY ONE IS DONE. I HAVE FOUR MILES ON THE AGENDA FOR THE MORNING AND THEN IT'S BACK TO THE GYM ON WEDNESDAY. I'M PSYCHED FOR THIS NEXT CHALLENGE.
