SEDONA

AFTER SEEING THE GRAND CANYON WE HEADED SOUTH THROUGH COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST, PAST HUMPHREY'S PEAK, FLAGSTAFF AND FINALLY, SEDONA. I WAS ANXIOUS TO HAVE SOME TIME TO RELAX. EVEN THOUGH WE WERE ON VACATION, WE NEVER STOPPED MOVING. OUR TIME IN SEDONA WOULD BE SPENT AT A BEAUTIFUL RESORT, RECOUNTING OUR TRIP, RELAXING AND REPACKING OUR GEAR TO HEAD HOME.

WE STAYED AT THE AMARA RESORT AND SPA, WHERE WE WERE HAPPILY GREETED WITH A COMPLIMENTARY GLASS OF WINE UPON ARRIVAL. OUR BAGS WERE TAKEN TO OUR ROOM WHILE DAVE AND I RETREATED TO THE CENTER COURTYARD FULL OF DANDELION COLORED ADIRONDACK CHAIRS, CORNHOLE GAMES, AND ADORABLY STRUNG EDISON BULB LIGHTS. SEDONA'S RED ROCKS SAT PERFECTLY IN FRONT OF US, GOLDEN IN COLOR THANKS TO THE SETTING SUN. WE BOTH LOOKED AT ONE ANOTHER AND IN UNISON BREATHED A SIGH OF RELIEF.

WE BOTH WERE IN DYER NEED OF A SHOWER SINCE WE HAD CAMPED THE NIGHT BEFORE AND HAD JUST HIKED ALL DAY. WE ARRIVED PRETTY MUCH RIDDLED WITH SWEAT AND CLAY AND DEFINITELY DID NOT MATCH OUR SURROUNDINGS. SO WE FINISHED OUR WINE AND MADE IT BACK TO OUR ROOM TO GOT READY FOR A MUCH NEEDED HEARTY DINNER. WE CLEANED UP PRETTY NICE, IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF.

WE ATE DINNER AT SALTROCK KITCHEN, THE AMARA RESORT'S RESTAURANT. THREE COURSES LATER, WE ORDERED DESERT, BUT TOOK IT BACK TO THE ROOM WITH US SO WE COULD SCARF IT DOWN IN OUR PAJAMAS (BEST IDEA EVER.)

OUR FLIGHT HOME WAS THE FOLLOWING EVENING SO WE WANTED TO GET AN EARLY START TO THE DAY. AFTER MUCH NEEDED REST IN AN EXCEPTIONALLY COMFY KING SIZE BED, WE GOT UP HEADED TO TOWN. NOTHING WAS OPEN THAT EARLY, SO WE JUST WALKED AROUND ADMIRING THE SCENERY. IT WAS PEACEFUL AND SORT OF FORCED US TO TAKE A SECOND TO PAUSE.

WE HEADED BACK TO THE RESORT AND DEVOURED ONE LAST BREAKFAST BEFORE LOADING THE JEEP ONE LAST TIME. WE WERE FLYING OUT OF PHOENIX AND HAD TO DROP OFF THE CAR BEFORE OUR FLIGHT. WE LEFT THE AMARA, AND SEDONA KNOWING THAT WE WOULD BE BACK.
