ACE HOTEL

ESCUCHELA, LA CIUDAD RESPIRANDO. ~ LISTEN, THE CITY BREATHES.

A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I HAD TO GO TO NEW YORK FOR WORK. I STAYED AT ACE HOTEL ON 29TH BETWEEN 5TH AND BROADWAY. ACE IS A BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH NO SHORTAGE OF CHIC FURNITURE, FIXTURES OR PEOPLE. ONCE INSIDE, LARGE PILLARS, ECLECTIC FURNISHINGS AND INTRIGUING TRAVELERS FILL THE LOBBY. STUMPTOWN COFFEE CONNOISSEURS SPILL OUT OF THE CONNECTING CAFE AND ONTO THE LEATHER LOUNGERS, PARK THEIR MAC BOOKS ON THE EXTRA LONG DINING TABLES AND WORK FAMILY STYLE. OPENING CEREMONY, LE LEBO AND NO. 7 SUB ARE ADDITIONAL CONNECTING SHOPS AND EATERIES. IF THOSE DON'T ATTRACT YOUR INTEREST, 5TH AVENUE IS JUST OUTSIDE AROUND THE CORNER.

THE WALLS ARE DARK. THE LIGHTS ARE DIM. PROVIDING AN ALL AROUND MOODY EXPERIENCE. I ALMOST DIDN'T FEEL COOL ENOUGH WALKING THROUGH THE PLACE. I STAYED IN A SMALL ROOM WITH A FULL BED AND BATH. UPON ENTERING, YOU'RE QUICKLY REMINDED JUST HOW SMALL EVERY DWELLING IS IN MANHATTAN. BUT IN THE TINY SPACE, THEY MANAGED TO PACK BIG PERSONALITY AND FLARE. THE ROOM IS FILLED WITH A PERFECT MIX OF SNACKS (WHICH COME AT A LOFTY PRICE, OF COURSE) AND A MINI FRIDGE HIDDEN INSIDE AN OLD MUSIC TRUNK.

I WORKED ALL DAY AND WAS EXHAUSTED BY DINNER TIME, SO BEING ABLE TO GO DOWNSTAIRS TO THE BRESLIN RESTAURANT WAS MORE THAN CONVENIENT. THE FACT IT WAS DELICIOUS HELPED, TOO. MY FAVORITE MEAL THERE WAS BREAKFAST. I WOKE UP A BIT EARLIER ONE MORNING (WELL RESTED THANKS TO THAT TERRIFIC BED) AND WENT FOR A RUN ALONG THE EAST RIVER. GOT BACK, GOT READY FOR THE DAY AND SAUNTERED DOWNSTAIRS TO GRAB A BITE TO EAT. I ORDERED COFFEE, THE GREEK YOGURT PARFAIT WITH MACERATED FRUIT AND THIS RIDICULOUS PISTACHIO PRALINE AND A SIDE OF FRESH SQUEEZED GRAPEFRUIT JUICE. IT WAS HEARTY, HEALTHY AND THE BEST WAY TO BEGIN THE DAY.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT ACE HOTEL IS THE DETAIL INVOLVED IN EVERY DECISION. EVERYTHING FROM THE STATIONARY ON THE BEDSIDE TABLE TO THE MAGNETIC DO NOT DISTURB SIGN WAS INTERESTING. ALTHOUGH THE HALLWAYS REMINDED ME OF SCENES STRAIGHT FROM AMERICAN HORROR STORY HOTEL,  I WILL SURELY BE BACK.
